★ Tips for Choosing the Right Width
★ Tips for Choosing the Right Width
Choosing the correct medicine cabinet width depends on four key factors:
vanity size, wall space, lighting layout, and installation style.
Here’s a practical sizing guide to help you decide.
1. Start with Your Vanity Width
As a general rule, your medicine cabinet should be slightly narrower than your vanity for proper balance and door clearance.
| Vanity Width | Recommended Cabinet Width |
|---|---|
| 30" Vanity | 24–26" |
| 36" Vanity | 28–32" |
| 42" Vanity | 32–36" |
| 48" Vanity | 36–42" |
| 60" (Single Sink) | 48–54" |
| 60" (Double Sink) | Two 20–26" cabinets or one 48-54" cabinet |
| 72" (Double Sink) | Two 28–32" cabinets or one 60–72" cabinet |
QueenFun Pro Tip:
Your cabinet should be at least 1 inch narrower than the vanity to allow the doors to open freely (minimum 90° opening clearance).
2. Plan Around Your Lighting
Lighting placement affects how wide your cabinet can be.
- If installing wall sconces, leave 5–6 inches between the cabinet edge and each sconce.
- If using an overhead light, you can typically choose a slightly wider cabinet.
Proper spacing ensures both functionality and visual balance.
3. Choose the Right Installation Style
Recessed Installation
- Sits inside the wall
- Can accommodate slightly larger widths
- Requires sufficient wall depth and framing
Surface-Mount Installation
- Mounted directly on the wall surface
- Slightly narrower widths often look cleaner
- Ideal for bathrooms without wall cavity space
4. Consider Aesthetics & Symmetry
- A centered cabinet above the sink creates a clean, balanced look.
- For double vanities, two separate cabinets (one over each sink) often look more proportional.
- A single long cabinet works well for a modern, seamless design.
5. Check Vertical Clearance
- Ensure enough space above the faucet and below light fixtures.
- Standard cabinet heights range from 24–30 inches, so confirm your ceiling height and plumbing placement allow comfortable spacing.

Very easy install with the right framing ready to go. We hardwired it to our GFCI and it works great. Love all the features and very well made and packed
S
Really nice and well built mirror. The defogger works really good after a shower. The lights are really bright and the outlet is convenient. Shelves are easy to adjust to the right height for what’s put on it.
S
This medicine cabinet is really cool and beautiful. It’s has many light setting and anti-fog. It was packaged really well so there was absolutely no damage. I am remodeling my bathroom this summer so I’ll update photos once it’s hung. I think it’s going to add a sleek and modern look to my bathroom.
J
Wow! This mirror is amazing! Superior quality and craftsmanship. Very well built to support the heavy mirrors. The larger mirror had a third soft close latch to help assist with the weight of it. Buttons and clock were clear even with it having no power ran to it yet. Beautiful overall
S
This looks and works great. I wished we could have recessed it, but even so, it works great.
G
Love it.. it’s beautiful and it has every special feature I was looking for. I will order another one for the next bathroom We do over.
J
Beautiful mirror with brushed nickel frame that takes it up a notch. It arrived early and packaged securely. So glad we found this!
D
So happy with this purchase! We recessed ours, the installation was basic and easy enough if you know what you’re doing. The features of this mirror are great. Interior mirrors, lighting, plugs. The exterior features work as you’d expect, lighting styles, dimmer, anti-fog, all work exceptionally well. The clock is an added bonus! Our only complaint is that the clock is not dimmable. It’s quite bright in comparison to the rest of the mirror. You do have the option to turn off the clock completely. We love the feature of having the clock, so we’re undecided whether we’ll leave it on or not because of its brightness.
J
This brushed nickel lighted medicine cabinet was so easy to install. Took two people to mount it on the wall but was really easy with the French cleat design. Holds a ton of stuff and I am happy our toothbrushes are put away inside the cabinet.
