LumiGlow 20x26'' Front & Backlit Lighted Lighted Medicine Cabinet Mirror – Right Hinge

Choosing the correct medicine cabinet width depends on four key factors:
vanity size, wall space, lighting layout, and installation style.

Here’s a practical sizing guide to help you decide.

1. Start with Your Vanity Width

As a general rule, your medicine cabinet should be slightly narrower than your vanity for proper balance and door clearance.

QueenFun Pro Tip:
Your cabinet should be at least 1 inch narrower than the vanity to allow the doors to open freely (minimum 90° opening clearance).

2. Plan Around Your Lighting

Lighting placement affects how wide your cabinet can be.

• If installing wall sconces, leave 5–6 inches between the cabinet edge and each sconce.
• If using an overhead light, you can typically choose a slightly wider cabinet.

Proper spacing ensures both functionality and visual balance.

3. Choose the Right Installation Style

Recessed Installation

• Sits inside the wall
• Can accommodate slightly larger widths
• Requires sufficient wall depth and framing

Surface-Mount Installation

• Mounted directly on the wall surface
• Slightly narrower widths often look cleaner
• Ideal for bathrooms without wall cavity space

4. Consider Aesthetics & Symmetry

• A centered cabinet above the sink creates a clean, balanced look.
• For double vanities, two separate cabinets (one over each sink) often look more proportional.
• A single long cabinet works well for a modern, seamless design.

5. Check Vertical Clearance

• Ensure enough space above the faucet and below light fixtures.
• Standard cabinet heights range from 24–30 inches, so confirm your ceiling height and plumbing placement allow comfortable spacing.
